Consultancy
Carbon Partners is a New Zealand based consultancy focused on decarbonising industrial process heat using renewable energy.
We specialise in new type energy storage systems (NTESS), including locally development of thermal batteries, phase change materials, and sensible heat storage and their role within broader renewable energy solutions.
Our goal is to help major gas-using industries transition to electrification by deploying cutting edge storage solutions that deliver practical, financeable, and scalable outcomes.

Why NTESS?
Driving industry decarbonisation through electrification requires energy storage systems beyond batteries. NTESS – such as thermal batteries (molten salt, refractory bricks) and phase‑change materials – offer long-duration, low‑cost, and durable heat storage options.
These systems are being deployed globally, are proven offshore, and are ideally suited for process-heat applications, enabling power-time shifting and load flexibility.
Units in the 2-20MWh scale are required for New Zealand and the focus of PROJECT THERMAL.

What will the Project Thermal Consortium do?
Carbon Partners is bringing together a coalition of the willing – industrial, energy, and technology partners, along with New Zealand Government officials – to trial locally made thermal batteries across New Zealand industrial sites. By collaborating on real-world case studies, financial modelling, and scalable solutions, our consortium will help manufacturers cut emissions, reduce energy costs, and accelerate the shift to renewable process heat.
